Ok for readers that actually stop by this out of the way place deserve a heads up on what is coming very soon to blogshares. Ideas and Artefacts These were added and enabled earlier today to the testing site. Important bits of conversation with Seyed and Aine quoted from #blogshares IRC channel on Wyldryde Network.

<ashes> do # of votes recieved have any bearing on idea price/value?
<monkeyx> only in so far as making a blog belong to an industry or not
<ashes> i c
<monkeyx> the commodities a blog produces is split between the industries it belongs to
<ashes> so it's just links in/out that determines valuation of the commodities
<monkeyx> links in determines quantity, outgoing link value determines value
<monkeyx> but then its aggregated over all the industry to determine the price
<ashes> ahh ok you should put that up somewhere
<monkeyx> nah
<Aine> lol
<ashes> can I?
<monkeyx> that's what you're there for :)

Idea Commodities

So the number of Idea Commodities in any particular industry is calculated by adding up the # of incoming links of all the blogs in the industry multiplied by 60.
A blog such as Moveable Type with 10000 incoming links would add (600000 Idea Commodities divided by # of Industries it belongs to) to a Industry it is voted into. Right now MT belongs to 3 industries... thus it adds 200000 Idea Commodities to each of those 3 industries.

Now to figure out how the Price per Idea Commodity is generated add up all the outgoing link values of all the blogs in Industry and divide by number of blogs in industry. So the absolute maximum Price per Idea Commodity is $25000 per idea. or $250,000,000 for 10000 ideas (needed to make a Artefact)

Artefacts

Now this is where the big players will have a heyday. If you thought the market manipulations were something before just wait until these items come into play...
10000 idea commodities = 1 artefact
When you choose to Build Artefact your 10000 idea commodites are converted to the Industy Artefact... That Artefact can be used once every 24 hours on any blog in its industry and you can do any ONE of the Seven options. All Artefacts have the same options.

These are still being adjusted particularly the Raid Blog method.

<monkeyx> you can only have 1 of each artefact
<monkeyx> they only work against the industry they are associated with... so a "cheap" one will only have "cheap" returns vs. an expensive one
<Aine> ahhhhhh... that was an important fact I was missing!
<monkeyx> e.g. an artefact that works against weblog software is more powerful than one that works on monkeys
<Aine> hehehe
<monkeyx> it's quite neat in the way it sets price vs. performance
<ashes> so each artifact can/could work on diff industry blogs?
<ashes> er artefact :)
<Aine> no, it only works on that industry... I think
<monkeyx> the nanopublisher only works on Weblog Software blogs, the Master Hacker only works on Technology blogs etc
<ashes> ok :)
<monkeyx> what shall i call the artefact for Weblogs i wonder
<ashes> what should it do is a better question
<monkeyx> they all do the same thing :)
<Aine> any of the seven or eight things listed on the front page
<monkeyx> yep
<Aine> hehehe
<monkeyx> and there is only 1 artefact for each industry
<ashes> ahhh the plot thickens...
<Aine> but if the blog belongs to more than one industry...
<monkeyx> then multiple artefacts could affect it
<Aine> uh huh
<Aine> what if you have six players all attempting to use their artefacts on a blog at once?
<ashes> it's going to get expensive :)
<monkeyx> they should be processed in sequence
<monkeyx> but it's like 6 people buying the same public shares etc
* Aine is going to go broke
<monkeyx> the underlying stuff is the same
<Aine> if you got an artefact, and then added blogs to that industry, it would actually make it more expensive for someone to get the same artefact as you
<Aine> and I can't sell it now either, looks like
<monkeyx> it'd be too powerful otherwise... just imagine it ;)
<Aine> I was...
<monkeyx> no artefacts are permament non-saleable
<monkeyx> you can use 2 diff artefacts on the same blog if the blog belongs to both of their industries
<ashes> yup did that ;)
<monkeyx> i'm resetting the last used of the artefacts to give you more play time :)
<ashes> oh shit forgot to change the function
<ashes> hmmm my third try... the industry buzz didn't seem to do anything
<monkeyx> ashes: yeah it did on weblog software
<ashes> oh increases the industry price?
<ashes> darn I was looking for share price
<monkeyx> no... it raises the share price on the top blogs for the industry
<monkeyx> Morgaine: you need to have 10,000 of the idea commodities for the artefact's industry then in your profile use the Build <whatever>
<Aine> 10000 idea commodities =>build artefact
<ashes> if you do a hostile takeover shouldn't the price move at least some...?
<monkeyx> nope
<ashes> darn
<monkeyx> same as an LBO
<ashes> so have to use 2
<monkeyx> if there were public shares then yes
<ashes> ahhh
<ashes> hmm $210 to $261 guess that's around the low end?
<monkeyx> nice double artefact whammy ashes
<ashes> $261 to $340 lil better :)
<monkeyx> recouped your money yet?
<ashes> nope close though
<ashes> one more time :)
<monkeyx> heh
<monkeyx> there will be a bit of a gold rush initially to get the artefacts
<monkeyx> i suspect
<ashes> oh yeah... no doubt about that :)
<ashes> lots of money will leave the game
<monkeyx> :)
<ashes> like probably 1/3 of wealth
<monkeyx> it'll give rich players an interesting position to pick from to compete with the newcomers on the best players list
<monkeyx> i.e. reduce their starting worth but have artefacts to play with
<ashes> there's an idea
* Aine isn't interested in the lists, really
<ashes> never even thought of that
<Aine> nor contests
<monkeyx> it's not for everyone
<ashes> I may just liquidate everything
<monkeyx> different approaches living side by side
<ashes> 30-40 artefacts would make life very interesting
<monkeyx> hehe
<monkeyx> need to design some ;)
<monkeyx> and you best start voting some blogs into industries
<monkeyx> the right industries
<ashes> not till needed
<monkeyx> hehe

Ok something new and exciting... or how about less fattening and good for you? mmm maybe just not too boring? hehe. Ok been messing about finding limits on the P/E in Blogshares.... The best blogs to buy are the ones that have just been added to the system as they have Growth 100% and Market Share 100%. What this translates into is a Max P/E of 325 that these blogs can be pumped up to. Second thing the buy 1 share trick has been changed to buy 10 shares. Oh and I managed to hit that $1 Billion Blogdollars of worth. whee!

Closing in on that magical $1 Billion Blogdollars of networth.

Oh and the new Blogshares Strategy Weblog is up and running. I'm very grateful to Seyed for letting me have a little section of Blogshares where I can post Strategies for the game, where everyone can find them :)
