I decided a couple days ago I wanted to play an old PC game "Wing Commander: Privateer" circa 1993 from Origin systems. I had some troubles playing it under Win 95/98 but hadn't tried it out under XP. First attempts all to no avail. It seems the JEMM (Jason's Expanded Memory Manager) (I would guess that's what it means as a Jason Yenawine wrote it for them), is under no circumstances going to run. I tried every possible combination... so went searching the net for a good dos emulator... found DOSemu but it only wants to work under linux and it said Privateer wouldn't work so read a few more forums and came across this Wing Commander News Archives and within that article a gem a link to Connectix on the front page a glowing statement saying the company was purchased by Micro$oft... hmm.... It seems they (M$) think this is the next great business app... pfft it rocks for gamers, hence I doubt they will make the fortune they no doubt spent on the company, back anytime soon. Back to the subject at hand, After downloading the 23Mb demo and getting a registration key (all free). Loading it up.... It works, It works great, I installed Dos 6.22 on a virtual machine, loaded up Privateer, lo and behold it works... It would crash and I was having trouble figuring out why, but it seems the sound emulation isn't perfect yet so if you want sound be prepared for crashing till perhaps another update. Anyhow I would recommend this proggy highly 5 stars (4 stars if you need sound).
Well Ideas and Artefacts went live a week ago. *grin* I made yet another fortune. 2 B to 30 Billion in the span of 45 minutes of their launch. The buy low / sell high strategy worked rather well. This was a strategy that the test group was unable to test as reindexes of blogs and the ideas that they belong to wouldn't happen. So it was pretty cool to see my suspicions confirmed when the commodities market went live. Unfortunately each incoming link (upon reindex of the blog) only produces 1 idea now, not 60 as I had posted before, so getting 10,000 ideas (needed to make an artefact) can be a very longterm project.
Yay, no more messing with <table>, <tr>, <td> tags etc. Cascading Style Sheets (css) rock my world :) Gracias to Owen Briggs, glish.com, brainjar.com, tantek.com, alistapart.com and of course www.w3.org for making it all make sense.
